The United States government has concluded a plan to deport Nigerians numbering 3,690 residing in the country without proper documentation, which aligns with the country’s newly inaugurated president, Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

Nigeria has ranked number two on the list of African countries to face deportation, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Somalia ranked first with 4,090 numbers, while Ghana has 3,228 undocumented immigrants.

Mexico tops the list on the global list with a total number of 252,044, while El Salvador comes second with some 203,822 people.

This new policy has been criticized by so many people who mentioned that it will affect immigrant families, including U.S.-born children.

Religious leaders have also joined the number of people who have condemned the action and appealed to President Trump’s administration to show compassion toward immigrants and vulnerable populations.
