Timaya Declares: “There’s No Love in the Nigerian Music Industry”

Nigerian singer Inetimi Alfred Odom, widely known as Timaya, recently shared his view that goodwill is missing among colleagues in the Nigerian music scene. In an interview with Channels TV, Timaya stated that this lack of camaraderie has always existed.

“Your colleagues are not your friends,” he emphasized. “The only people who genuinely want to see you excel more than them are your parents. Collaboration is just another form of promotion. But today, some artists won’t even show up for a video shoot after a collab, or you may need to pay a fee to feature them, and these things stifle music and creativity.”
He noted that times have changed, saying, “Old ways can’t open new doors.” He further observed that there are often lingering tensions with colleagues over past grievances, making competition and rivalry commonplace. For Timaya, this atmosphere is “just normal,” similar to any competitive work environment.
