Tems Breaks Record, Becomes First Female African Singer To Reach 1 Billion Streams On Spotify


Grammy winner and Nigerian artist Temilade Openiyi, with the stage name Tems, has just broken a new record as the first female artist in Africa to reach more than 1 billion streams on Spotify.
The song that helped her to achieve this feat is her collaboration in 2022 with Drake and Future, Wait For U.
The single samples her hit ‘Higher,’ which was one of the tracks on her For Broken Ears’ EP released in 2020. He became number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, which made her the first artist in Africa to break the record.
Wait For U achieved two nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards with a win in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category.
