Sunday Oliseh Declares: “Super Eagles Must Qualify for 2026 World Cup”

Former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has warned that it would be disastrous if the Super Eagles fail to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Despite four matches played, the West African team is yet to secure a victory in their qualifying group. Currently, Augustine Eguavoen’s squad sits second from the bottom in Group C, holding only three points.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s absence at the last World Cup in Qatar, Oliseh expressed how disappointing it would be to miss another chance on the world stage.
“Africa may have up to 10 teams represented at the next World Cup, and the thought of Nigeria missing out would be disastrous,” Oliseh stated to Supersport TV. “I spent six weeks in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, working with the FIFA Study Group, and it was painful seeing Nigeria left out.”
The Super Eagles are set to face Rwanda in their next qualifier match in March 2025.
