Skales Criticizes Nigerian Police for Excessive Road Checkpoints

Nigerian artist Skales has expressed his frustration with the Nigerian police, criticizing the excessive number of checkpoints on the roads, particularly on Orchid Road. On October 28, 2024, he took to X to voice his displeasure, highlighting what he perceives as police abuse of power and their negative treatment of the public.
He remarked, “It seems like they’re only teaching how to stop luxury cars… they shamelessly set up checkpoints on Orchid Road, stressing youths who end up begging for money. There’s no honor at all; they’re useless people.”

Focusing on the numerous checkpoints specifically on Orchid Road, he accused the police of profiling drivers of luxury cars, deliberately targeting them for monetary gain. He questioned, “@NigeriapolicePR… why do you have so many policemen on Orchid Road? They can’t do anything to me because I’m no criminal, but is it legal to have 3 to 4 checkpoints just a two-minute drive apart? All they do is stop luxury cars and ask ridiculous questions, and when they don’t get what they want, it either leads to insults or begging for money.”
Skales concluded by stating his intention to document the situation, saying, “Look into it, because I’m going to start wearing a camera and posting everything online. It’s super annoying.”
