Simi Champions Women’s Financial Independence: “Don’t Raise Daughters to Rely on Others!”
Nigerian singer Simi has highlighted the crucial need for women to be financially independent, urging parents to nurture daughters who recognize the importance of self-sufficiency. In a recent video shared on her official TikTok account, Simi called on women to seize control of their financial destinies.
“Please do not raise your daughters to think that when they grow up, all they have to do is rely on someone else; they need to take care of themselves. If someone is spoiling you, it shouldn’t be because you can’t spoil yourself. As they pamper you, you should also pamper them, showing that you’re standing strong,” she said.
Simi spoke about the protection that comes with financial independence, emphasizing that it empowers women to safeguard themselves. “There is security in knowing that you’ve got yourself covered. A woman’s economic power lies in her ability to fend for herself and confidently acknowledge her wholeness. You deserve good things; claim your space,” she added.
Reflecting on her own background, Simi acknowledged her privilege and the support she received growing up. “I say this from a place of privilege. I was surrounded by people who believed in me, pushed me, and offered me opportunities. But many women have to navigate with less—less love, less faith, and fewer chances. As a society, we must step in. When you can, please offer a deserving woman an opportunity,” she appealed.
