Revenue Allocations To Local Government Delayed Due To Administrative Concerns

Plans to send January allocations worth N361.754 billion directly for Nigeria’s 774 local governments directly to their account have been stalled because of administrative issues.
It was made known at the January 2025 FAAC meeting in Abuja, that many of the councils are yet to open the required accounts with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) or submit details for crediting.
Part of those things that caused the setback include political interference and the delay in local government elections.
The development is a follow up of a July 2024 Supreme Court verdict that granted financial automation to the 774 local governments in the country.
The Federal Government remains hopeful that all the errors will have solutions be the end of this month to allow direct disbursement to the local governments.
