Oyo To Crown OBa Abimbola Akeem Owoade As Alaafin Of Oyo On April 4

The ancient kingdom of Oyo in Oyo State, part of Southwest, will crown Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade on April 4, 2025, as the 46th Alaafin of Oyo. This coronation will mark a remarkable moment in Yoruba cultural heritage. 

The committee in charge of the coronation, which comprises members from the Alaafin’s Palace and representatives of the Oyo State government, has commenced preparation to make it a grand event.

According to the Yoruba customs and traditions, the Oba-Elect will undergo some traditional Alaafin rituals before the coronation comes into place.

The nomination of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade was approved by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on January 10, 2025, and staff of office was formally handed over to him on January 13, 2025.
