Organized Labour in Abuja and four other states has expressed its belief that the payment of the minimum wage should begin at the end of this month.

This follows Oyo State’s payment of an N80,000 minimum wage. The Imo, Sokoto, Akwa Ibom, and FCT governments have set January as the end of the month for salary raises, while workers in Ebonyi and Cross River remain uncertain.

This optimism comes after Oyo State in the Southwest region kickstarted a minimum wage of N80,000. Akwa Ibom, Sokoto, Imo, and FCT governments have also made it known that they will commence the increase in payment by the end of January, while those who work in Cross River and Ebonyi states are yet to know when the minimum wage will be implemented.

Lagos, Rivers, and a few others implemented the minimum wage last year, while many states agree it will be implemented in 2025. President Bola Tinubu approved a minimum wage of N70,000 in July, promising to review it every three years.
