Ogun Deputy Governor Ecapaces Students’ Protest In Abeokuta

The deputy governor of Ogun State, Engr. (Mrs.) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, narrowly escaped an attack by protesting students in the Oke-Ilewo part of the state’s capital, Abeokuta, on Wednesday.
The protesters, who were reported to be students from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), were protesting against the hike in tuition fees and issues related to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization.
According to a report issued by the governor’s special adviser on media and strategy, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the convoy belonging to the deputy governor was on its way to the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day when the protesters went after it. They were also said to have been armed with sticks and other objects in an attempt to block the convoy.
Akinmade said, “This informed her convoy decision to make an immediate detour to her lodge for the protesting students to pass peacefully before she left for the function she was slated to attend.
The protesters continued their anger upon realizing that the deputy governor was in the convoy, which caused her security to immediately detour to ensure safety.
When the Ogun State JCC chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) was contacted, he revealed that there was no attack on the deputy governor’s convoy, and the students were surprised when they noticed that the convoy changed direction.
“There was no way we could probably have attacked the deputy governor’s convoy,” he said.
