The lawyer representing embattled Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has mentioned again that the release of his client should not be seen as an act of mercy but a legal necessity.

Kanu maintains his innocence and believes his case doesn’t warrant clemency. Ejimakor cautions that advocating for a pardon might imply guilt, potentially encouraging continued prosecution.

The IPOB boss says he is not guilty of the charges against him and believes that his case with the federal government does not warrant clemency. The lawyer also warns those appealing for pardon to be cautious, as pardon may seem like guilt, which could lead to a continued prosecution.

The lawyer also appeals to those who support Nnamdi Kanu to continue mentioning his innocence and asking for his release, similar to other groups’ approaches. Kanu also thanked those in the South-East for restoring peace in the region.

The IPOB leader will appear before Justice Binta Nyako on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
