NECO Issues Strong Warning to Parents and Schools: No More Proxy Registrations for Candidates

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has cautioned school proprietors, parents, and stakeholders against registering candidates for its exams through proxy.

In a statement by NECO’s acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the council noted that such fraudulent actions often lead to identity theft and the issuance of fake results.

The statement outlined NECO’s commitment to combating examination malpractice by implementing measures such as biometric data capturing, customized answer booklets, and embedding candidates’ photographs and birth dates on original certificates.

NECO also highlighted its e-Verify platform, introduced last year, which allows online verification of results. The council warned that any certificate that cannot be authenticated through this platform is deemed fake.

State ministries of education and school owners were urged to ensure only the genuine personal details of candidates are used during the registration process.

Additionally, NECO disclosed that results for candidates involved in impersonation during the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) have been withheld as part of its strict policies to curb exam malpractice.
