Lagos school expels students following their father’s violent attack on a teacher and a cleaner.

The management of Rosebud School in Idimu, Lagos, has expelled three students following a violent incident involving their father, Ayofe Kolawole, who assaulted a teacher, Elizabeth Ogri, and a sanitary worker, Agnes Paul, on October 10, 2024.

Vivian Shonekan, the school’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the expulsion after a viral video showed the 44-year-old Kolawole attacking the two women inside a classroom.

The shocking footage captured Kolawole physically assaulting Paul, while Ogri, fearing for her safety, began recording the incident. Once Kolawole noticed he was being filmed, he redirected his aggression toward Ogri, trying to prevent her from documenting the attack.

Shonekan stated that although Kolawole’s family later returned to apologize and seek a settlement, the school stood firm on its decision to expel his children. “There was no issue with settling, but the school firmly decided that their three children could not return,” she explained.

Agnes Paul, a mother of four, recounted the traumatic experience, revealing that she continues to suffer from injuries sustained during the assault. “I’ve been coughing at night and experiencing chest pain. The school has been covering my hospital bills, but I need further tests,” Paul shared.

The incident reportedly stemmed from a misunderstanding two days earlier when one of Kolawole’s children complained of feeling unwell. Ogri, the child’s teacher, explained that she had administered first aid by closing windows and turning off the fan to help him feel better. However, Kolawole later accused Ogri of trying to initiate his child with a “black substance,” misunderstanding the kernel oil she had applied to treat a whitlow on her fingernail.

Despite Ogri’s explanation, Kolawole demanded that she sign an undertaking stating the oil was not fetish. Ogri initially refused but later signed under pressure, leading to the violent confrontation captured in the viral video.

Kolawole was arrested and arraigned in court on Tuesday, October 22, according to Lagos State Police Command spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed that charges of physical assault had been filed against him.
