Husband Says Wife Pulled His Scrotum During Fights as He Seeks Divorce
Customary Court Adjourns Divorce Case After Disturbing Allegations
At the Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, a divorce suit brought by Adewole against his wife, Oluwabunmi, has been adjourned for judgment. Adewole claims his wife’s behavior has become intolerable.
He described Oluwabunmi as irresponsible, alleging that she neglected household chores and left their home in disarray, forcing him to take on her responsibilities. Adewole stated that she would become violent during arguments, sometimes biting him and pulling his scrotum until he pleaded for her to stop. He expressed that she had recently threatened his life, prompting his decision to seek divorce.

Oluwabunmi denied all accusations and opposed the dissolution of their marriage. She also contested Adewole’s request for custody of their children, arguing that he was unkind and heartless.
In court, Adewole detailed his frustrations, saying, “My wife lacks the qualities of a dutiful wife and loving mother. Our marriage has no love or care. She was lazy, dirty, and disrespectful.” He recounted how their relationship began eight years ago and highlighted her neglect of household duties, stating, “I covered up for her lapses, but she was unappreciative.”
Oluwabunmi, however, refuted his claims, stating, “My husband is lying. I disagree with the dissolution of our wedlock.” She explained that she had four children through cesarean sections, and only two survived. She also mentioned that Adewole ignored her health needs and emotional welfare, leading to her feeling humiliated and cheated.
The court president, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, ruled that there was no marriage to dissolve, as no bride price had been paid, and awarded custody of the children to Oluwabunmi, emphasizing their need for maternal care. The court also issued an order restricting Oluwabunmi from threatening or interfering in Adewole’s life.
