The European Union, in its new statement, announced a €1.9 billion humanitarian aid package for 2025, with a total of €510 million allocated to the largest Black nation, Nigeria, and other sub-Saharan African countries.

The European Commission also mentioned that the support will be shared with regions including West and Central Africa, the Sahel, the Lake Chad basin, North-West Nigeria, Central Africa, the Great Lakes, and the Greater Horn of Africa.

The support is facilitated to ensure that the worsening humanitarian crises are addressed and planned to impact more than 300 million people across the world this year.

Hadja Lahbib, the EU Commissioner, talked about the need for safe and uninterrupted entry to populations of those who are vulnerable, mentioning that it is not sufficient to only give monetary assistance without compliance with international humanitarian law.

€470 million is voted to both North Africa and the Middle East, with €95 million to be sent to North Africa and Yemen and €375 million to the Middle East, especially war-ridden Gaza.
