The anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has arrested eight former chairmen of local government in Ondo State for allegedly siphoning money worth billions of naira while they were in office.

The arrests were made after workers from the local government accused them of fraudulent transactions.

The eight of them have been taken to EFCC’s Benin zonal office for questions over their alleged financial mismanagement dating back to 2017, during the transition between ex-Governor Mimiko and late Governor Akeredolu.

Investigations cover all 18 local governments, with treasurers and administrators also under scrutiny. More arrests are expected as authorities continue probing the misuse of council funds.

News has it that EFCC will make more arrests as they continue to investigate financial misappropriation within the local government areas.
