Dele Farotimi Faults IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s Extension In Office

Dele Farotimi, an embattled human rights lawyer, has mentioned that the continuous stay in office and extension of Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun is illegal, stating that he should have retired from service.
The former students’ union president of Lagos State University criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for keeping Egbetokun in office despite his age, arguing that it runs against the letters of the constitution.
Dele mentioned that he fully backs former AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore on the issue while responding to questions from News Central. He said,
“Nigeria as a legal entity is full of lies and contradictions, and laws rarely matter in the country that we have built. If laws matter, the reality is that Yele is completely correct. The Inspector General of Police is illegal. He has exceeded his time in office…”
While backing his position, he included that the Police Service Commission (PSC) also made it known that the IGP should have left office, emphasizing that the President’s decree contradicts the provisions of the constitution.
