Deadly Greed: Woman Poisons Boyfriend Over $30 Million Inheritance Belief

North Dakota Woman Sentenced to 25 Years for Poisoning Boyfriend Over $30 Million Inheritance Belief

A North Dakota woman has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after admitting to fatally poisoning her boyfriend, believing he was set to inherit $30 million.

Ina Kenoyer, 48, pleaded guilty to murder in May and was sentenced on October 16, 2023. In addition to her prison term, she was ordered to pay $3,455 in restitution to the victim’s family.

Kenoyer was arrested on October 30, 2023, nearly two months after the poisoning death of her longtime boyfriend, 51-year-old Steven Riley Jr. On September 3, 2023, she spiked sweet tea with antifreeze, leading to his death two days later.

According to prosecutors, Kenoyer acted out of fear that Riley would break up with her upon receiving the alleged inheritance, which later turned out to be a scam. Friends of the couple reported that Riley planned to meet a lawyer about the supposed windfall but fell ill instead.

Despite friends urging medical help, Kenoyer insisted he was suffering from heat stroke and took him home to rest. Days later, when his condition worsened, he was airlifted to a hospital but succumbed to ethylene glycol poisoning.

An autopsy revealed no traces of alcohol in Riley’s system, contradicting Kenoyer’s claims. Evidence found in their home included a Windex bottle containing a green liquid suspected to be antifreeze. Kenoyer later confessed to adding it to Riley’s drink to mask the taste.

Riley’s son, Ryan, expressed the profound impact of his father’s loss in court, saying, “To have you take away someone so important, it’s just hurtful… I never expected to lose my dad to something so selfish.”
