Ayra Starr declares she wouldn’t date a musician, even in her dreams.
Award-winning Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has expressed that she won’t date anyone in the music industry when she eventually starts dating, stating that her standards for relationships are now high. In an interview with American singer Coco Jones for Rolling Stone, Ayra humorously remarked, “In the dream world, it wouldn’t be somebody that is in the industry. Probably just like a billionaire. On a yacht. In Dubai. In a thong,” referencing a viral social media trend about living a stress-free, luxurious life.
Discussing her approach to dating, Ayra revealed that she is grateful for not having dated before her music career took off. “I’m so happy I wasn’t really dating before I started music. I didn’t know what I was missing. Now that I’ve waited so long to date, my standards are very high. If meeting those standards is going to be difficult, then it’s bye-bye. Plus, I barely have time for myself, let alone for a guy,” she said.
In a September 2024 interview with Dazed Magazine, Ayra shared her desire for love, stating, “I want to fall in love. I wrote ‘Lagos Love Story’ about what love would look like if I were in a relationship.” Despite describing herself as a romantic at heart, she confirmed that she is currently very single.
Ayra Starr clarified that she has never been in a fully committed relationship, saying, “I’m very strong-headed about it. I’ve never been in love… I’ve had certain experiences—not situationships!—but I’ve never been in a fully committed relationship.”
