A court of appeal belonging to the Federal Government in the U.S. has upheld the 30-year jail term served on singer R. Kelly by a lower court, along with his sex trafficking convictions and racketeering.

The media learned that the R&B king was convicted of sex trafficking and racketeering in 2021. Kelly was also served an additional 20-year jail term for child sex charges, including producing child sexual abuse images in Chicago.

The appeals court ruled on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, that the singer used his popularity to sexually exploit and abuse young women and girls.

The panel, which consisted of three judges, also dismissed the appeal filed by R. Kelly that prosecutors were unable to prove that he operated a racketeering scheme that recruited minors and women for sex.

Jennifer Bonjean who stands as a legal representative for the singer mentioned that she will not give up as she plans to appeal the case to the Supreme Court.
